New LinkedIn Features Help Companies Build a Sense of Community Online

Recently, LinkedIn released several enhancements to company Pages that motivate employees and help companies better engage with their teams online. Companies, regardless of size or industry, have a desire to build a sense of community with their employees and customers. The changes implemented by LinkedIn are a direct result of feedback from companies that use the social media networking platform.

Rishi Jobanputra, Senior Director of Product Management at LinkedIn, shared, “It [communities] impacts how your customers feel about your brand, how they interact with it, how you recruit and retain talent, and how you build overall customer loyalty.”

Having employees engage with a brand on social media can help foster the authentic community that organizations seek. LinkedIn’s new tools leverage a company’s employees to share its content with their personal networks, fostering brand loyalty and a commitment to building the community.

Let’s take a look at LinkedIn’s 3 new features:

ONE: EMPLOYEE NOTIFICATIONS

Instead of sending a separate email to employees, letting them know you just shared a post on LinkedIn, Page administrators can use the employee notification feature to streamline the process and increase engagement.

Companies have a golden opportunity to not only amplify their message by having their employees share and engage with their posted content but also build a stronger bond with their employees. In turn, employees can gain a sense of accomplishment by feeling part of the company’s marketing efforts and are motivated to “spread the message.” A win-win for companies as posts with high engagement reach more people.

To ensure companies are not overwhelming their employees with these types of requests, LinkedIn has built in a safeguard limiting company Page administrators to one share request every seven days.

TWO: EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION

Now, company Page administrators can give employees kudos directly on LinkedIn. This is a great tool to celebrate an employee’s work anniversary or milestone, to welcome a new employee to the team or to commend an employee for a job well done.

By sharing these types of moments on the platform, companies provide Followers a peek inside their culture and, at the same time, keep employee morale high.

THREE: COMPLETION METER

According to LinkedIn data, completed Pages generate 30% more Pageviews per week compared to incomplete pages.

LinkedIn’s new Completion Meter can show Page administrators which areas require attention. Completed Pages will also provide LinkedIn’s algorithms with the information it needs to generate relevant content suggestions so Page admins can target their audiences more efficiently.

One thing to keep in mind is that some of the new enhancements are only available to company Pages that have greater than 300 Followers.
